Privacy policy

What we collect

Your email address and password, to create and secure your account. The moments, years, and ONEs you write. Photos you choose to attach. The places you've been that you add to your map, with their year. A location, only if you search for one or choose to share your device's GPS position — we never collect location automatically or in the background. We also record when you open the app, to understand how ONE is used; this stays on our own server and is never shared with third parties.

Bonds and other people

If you seal a Bond with someone who doesn't yet have a ONE account, we store the name and email address they provide so the Bond can later be linked to their own account if they choose to create one, and we send them a single email confirming the Bond.

Reminder emails

We send a few reminder emails: one in the middle and one near the end of each month, to invite you to add your moments, and in December a few more to remind you to choose and seal your ONE. You can turn them off at any time in Notifications, or with the link at the bottom of every reminder. We never send marketing emails, and we never share your address.

Where your data lives

Your data is stored on our servers and is not sold or shared with advertisers. We use OpenStreetMap/Nominatim, a third-party service, to turn place names and coordinates into searchable locations — no personal identifiers are sent beyond the search text or coordinates themselves.

Permanence

Once sealed, a ONE or a Bond cannot be edited, by us or by you — this is a deliberate design choice, not an oversight. But you stay in control of what you keep: you can let a ONE go (it is removed for good, and that year can't have another one), remove a Bond from your Bonds (it stays with the other person, until they remove it too), and remove any moment, at any time. We may remove a Bond that contains abusive content. If you delete your account, your own years, moments, and sealed ONEs are permanently removed. A Bond you sealed with someone else remains visible to them, with your identity removed from it.

Your choices

You can download a copy of all your data, or delete your account permanently (not reversible), from Account management. You can turn off reminder emails in Notifications, and notifications from your device or browser settings, at any time.

Pilot sign-ups

If you join the pilot waiting list on this website, your email address is sent to us only to contact you about the ONE pilot. We don't use it for anything else. You can ask us to delete it at any time by writing to admin@chooseyour.one.
